AMBASSADORS/MEMBER SERVICES COMMITTEE
Mission: To welcome new businesses and assist in their
awareness of Chamber activities and programs and to promote
their involvement in these activities. To retain existing
businesses and industries by showing appreciation and seeking
their involvement
Programs:
- Attend all special Chamber events, including ribbon cuttings and ground breakings
- Continue to visit with new and existing members to assist with membership retention.
- Host new member reception.
- Publish Buyers’
Guide/Membership Directory.
- Adopt a "Buddy System" to
each new member to invite to chamber events.

2007 Ambassadors Committee
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
COMMITTEE
Mission: To provide support to the Board of Commissioners, the Development Authority of Gordon County, the Airport
Authority, and the Mayors and City Councils of county municipalities as they all work to improve community infrastructure
and enhance the business climate in order to facilitate commerce and improve the quality of life of Gordon County.
Program of Work:
- Monitor the implementation of the new joint Gordon County, Calhoun, Fairmount, Resaca, Plainville, and Ranger
comprehensive plan 2007-2027 to ensure that the plan is being followed and implemented.
- Coordinate with the county
to prepare a five minute promotional DVD to inform and
promote the Gordon County community
to new residents and prospective businesses
- Encourage that all
governmental meetings and processes are open to the public
to the maximum extent possible
including televising of all public meetings such as county
commission meetings, city council meetings, and Board of
Education meetings, and providing general information and
events about each city
- Work with Coosa Valley
Technical College regarding obtaining a cable connection
from a cable provider and establishing
a studio that would create original cable programming
- Conduct two political forums
during the 2008 election year including a forum prior to the
primary election and another
forum prior to the general election.

CONVENTION &
VISITORS COMMITTEE
Mission: To promote activities and events that attract visitors to Gordon County, and to create an environment and a
quality of life that make people feel welcome, entertained and eager to return to the area.
Programs:
- Sponsor an event that will
eventually draw tourists to our community (2008 More than a
Taste of Calhoun)

Develop and circulate a brochure which
showcases the meeting facilities in our community

Partner with the Northwest Georgia Regional
Fair and the Calhoun Main Street Partnership to sponsor the
annual Calhoun Christmas Parade

Inform community and visitors of upcoming
cultural, entertainment and recreational activities by
publishing a community calendar of events
- Develop and implement a
training program for employees of hotels and motels
highlighting the attractions of Gordon County

Chamber featuring local Chamber and CVB events

DRUGS DON’T WORK COMMITTEE
Mission: To promote initiatives which identify and reduce
substance abuse in Gordon County
Programs:
- Keep all DDW members
informed about effective ways to prevent drug abuse through
a monthly newsletter.
- Provide all supervisors and
employees with a monthly newsletter on how to supervise a
certified drug-free workplace
- Encourage industries to
mandate treatment for employees with alcohol/substance abuse
problems.
- Provide public service
announcements through the local media.
- Sponsor a community-wide
Drug Education Seminar.
- Sponsor community and school
activities during National Red Ribbon Week.
- Support community drug
awareness programs

Governor Perdue’s Red Ribbon
Award
EDUCATION COMMITTEE
Mission:To promote quality education and recognize
accomplishments of students and educators in Gordon County. This
committee endeavors to bring business and industry into our
local classrooms as well as offer educational opportunities to
business and industry
Programs:
- Present scholarships to
seniors from Calhoun High School, Gordon Central High
School, Sonoraville High School, and
Georgia Cumberland Academy and recognize Teachers of the
Year from these systems. Scholarships for students and
gift certificates for teachers are generated by the annual
Educational Scholarship Golf Tournament
- Promote the following initiatives which bring local business leaders into the classrooms and take educators into their
workforce
- Offer the Choices program to all 8th graders and other similar programs at various grade levels in conjunction with
the Existing Industries Committee
- Support Junior Achievement program in all schools
- Support all local school programs such as FYI (Freshman Year Initiative) to improve high school completion rate
and encourage post secondary options
- Work in conjunction with the Calhoun-Gordon Council for a Literate Community in support of school attendance
through the GRAD (Get Ready, Aspire and Dream) program
- Provide a Speakers’ Bureau
- Provide online
access to Chamber Scholarship Application
- Have at least one Education Committee member as the liaison with Existing Industries Committee
- Work in conjunction with post secondary schools to advance career opportunities for all students
- Promote annual Teacher

Mission: To assist existing industries by providing information, education, and resources and to work with other committees and the community to provide industry input and support for community initiatives..
Program of Work:
- Conduct informal industry survey for indicating the recent past, present and future state of the industry.
- Support Calhoun/Gordon
County Graduation Coaches by making available ‘Educators in
Industry’ and ‘Speakers’ Bureau’ for the local school
systems
- Offer the CHOICES Program to
all 8th graders and other similar programs at various grade
levels in conjunction with the Education Committee
- Grow diverse membership on
this committee
- Support the Chamber and
community programs: Drugs Don’t Work; Manufacturers’
Directory; Annual Job Fair
- Schedule guest speakers to
enhance meetings.
- Continue a Speakers Bureau

RELATIONS/MARKETING COMMITTEE
Mission: To direct and implement a comprehensive marketing and public relations plan for the Chamber, and to
educate the full community as to what the Chamber has to offer.
Programs:
- Develop print material
guidelines for all Chamber Committees for the purpose of
providing a uniform design for all Chamber materials
- Conduct research and gather
information to assist the CVB Committee with their proposed
purchase of a scrolling marquee sign on the Chamber front
lawn
- Develop and distribute a
mailer that would be used to both solicit new chamber
members and to say thanks to existing members
- Continue to modify, update,
and redesign the Chamber website, allowing the website to
stay on the cutting edge of providing information to Chamber
members
- Continue to develop and
publish the monthly Chamber newsletter
- Continue the effort to
provide interesting and timely Chamber news items to our
local news media for broadcast publication
