Well, Calhoun/Gordon County offers a safe, friendly, small town
atmosphere, close to the large city. This unique community is
perfect for a get-away trip and is conveniently located on I-75
one hour north of Atlanta and 45 minutes south of Chattanooga.
History is a big part of this
community. Tour New Echota State Historic Site, the last capitol
of the Cherokee nation in the early 1800s. The museum and
restored buildings help you understand the history and events
that led to the “Trail of Tears.”
Calhoun Gordon Arts Center is the
newest restoration to our downtown. The museum offers ongoing
cultural and musical programs and exhibits year round. If you
like walking in the woods or camping, the Chattahoochee National
Forest is the place for you. The John’s Mountain Wildlife
Management Area offers sparkling trout streams along wooded
hiking trails that overflow tithe mountain beauty. The three
rivers in the county, Oostanaula, Conasauga and Coosawattee
offer outdoor fun and adventure.
If your game is golf, you’ll love
our courses. Fields Ferry Golf Course is a beautiful 18-hold
championship daily fee course just five miles from I-75. The
Elks Club, an old favorite of many, is conveniently located near
the interstate.
For antique buffs there are
plenty of shops, both downtown and throughout the county. You
can poke around and discover the past at our many delightful
antique stores. |
